Getting off to the right start
Prep your home and life for your new Pretty Little Pup!
Bringing a new Shih Tzu puppy home is an exciting and heartwarming milestone, but it also requires preparation and a clear understanding of the responsibility ahead. We’re here to streamline the process and answer all of your questions! Our Shih Tzu puppies are known for being affectionate and loyal, with beautiful coats that require regular grooming and attention. Choosing a well-bred, healthy puppy from a responsible breeder reflects your dedication to preserving the quality and temperament of the breed & setting the foundation for a happy, healthy companion for years to come.
Home Prep:
1 – Please make sure all cords are tucked away. Little puppies have a true love for chewing on things when they are young and even when they are older. Please make sure electrical phone cords and other types of cords are pulled up.
2 – Please make sure nothing toxic is left low enough for them to get a hold of. Even your purse on the ground with gum containing xylitol can be life-threatening. Look around, is there anything toxic they could get a hold of?
3 – Purchase a puppy play pen. Having a dedicated safe area is crucial for you and your pretty little pup to get off to a good start. If you need to shower or look away for a few minutes, you want to know they are in a safe place.
4 – Please make sure you have already purchased the food we feed and have it on hand.
5 – Do not change their food right after they come home. Shih Tzu’s have very fragile stomachs and we want to ensure they make a smooth transition. GI upsets can lead to a cascade of problems. If and when you decide to change their food, slowly over a 2 week periods, add in the new food. With the first new food meal being only a few pieces added into their original food.
6 – Keep stress low. Keep them in a low stress state and only playtime of 10 – 15 minutes before helping them to rest. 5 minutes of play in the hot sun max, and offer water continuously.
7 – Please make sure you read and understand all about Hypoglycemia in small breeds.
Pick Up:
1 – Please sign the purchase agreement before you come to pick up your puppy, in the excitement of holding your precious little pup, we often forget to fill it out. If you prefer though, you can fill it out in person with me.
2 – Bring with you a harness and leash or travel carrier, potty pads, and food dishes.
3 – Please be prepared for the final payment. Final payment is due in person at pickup.
Support:
1 – Please make sure you do not let your Shih Tzu Puppy jump off anything, like a couch, stairs, or out of your arms. Sometimes they can jump without realizing they will be hurt. Do not let them up on couches.
